Hazaribag, Mar 27 (PTI) Opposition BJP in Jharkhand has threatened to call a Hazaribag bandh on Monday if those involved in the recent “rape and murder” of a girl in Bishnugarh area were not promptly arrested.

State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu and Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal told reporters that the party would go ahead with the bandh if police fail to act within 48 hours.

They also visited the girl’s family at Kusumbha village and condemned the incident, alleging a deterioration in law and order in the state.

Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said her last rites were conducted on Friday evening, and expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon.

“We have got certain leads and are hopeful of nabbing the culprits shortly,” he said.

He said it would be ascertained from the post-mortem report whether the girl was sexually assaulted.

SDPO (Bishnugarh) B N Prasad had earlier said the girl had participated in a religious procession in her village on Tuesday night, as part of Ram Navami rituals.

Her body was recovered on Wednesday at some distance from the village and sent for post-mortem, he had said.

Police said a stick was found inserted in the girl’s private parts. An FIR has been lodged on the complaint of her mother against unidentified persons, alleging rape, they said. PTI CORR ANB RBT
