Latur, Mar 17 (PTI) The BJP’s Usha Sambhaji Patil-Talegaonkar has been elected as the president, while NCP candidate Dayanand Damodar Surwase has become the vice-president of the Latur Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra, an official said on Tuesday.
The election for the top posts took place on Monday in a meeting chaired by Additional District Collector Shilpa Karmarkar, who acted as the presiding officer.
Patil-Talegaonkar and Surwase bagged 34 votes each, defeating Congress candidates Deepali Bhosale and Nageshwari Kendre, who each received 25 votes, the official said.
The Zilla Parishad elections were held on February 7, and the results produced a hung house, as no party secured a clear majority in the 59-member body.
The Congress emerged as the single largest party with 23 seats, followed by the BJP with 18 seats and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with 12 seats. PTI COR ARU
