Pune, Jun 23 (PTI) BJP Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni on Monday demanded that Pune railway station be named after the legendary Thorele Bajirao Peshwa, also known as Bajirao I.

He was the Peshwa (prime minister) under Chatrapati Shahu I between 1720 to 1740 and is known for his military prowess as well as expansion of the Maratha empire. He is feted for never having lost a battle.

“Today, a meeting of Pune and Solapur railway divisions was convened. Several organizations have sought that Pune railway station be named after Thorele Bajirao Peshwa. I today reiterated the demand,” she said.

“The objective is to enable people to know the illustrious history of Pune. While Pune is a cultural, education hub and known for the IT industry, it is important that footprints of history should also be reflected,” she added. PTI SPK BNM
