Durgapur (WB), Jan 27 (PTI) BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday said the party is determined for West Bengal’s progress, and asserted that the advancement of the state is necessary to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047.

Nabin, in his first visit to the state after taking over the post, inaugurated the ‘Kamal Mela’, organised by the saffron party here.

“We are resolved to achieve the development of Bengal,” he said after the inauguration of the fair in this industrial town in Paschim Bardhaman district.

Nabin also lauded the Bengal unit of the BJP for providing a platform to small traders by organising the fair.

An advanced Bengal is a necessity to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047, he said.

The BJP president landed at the Andal airport on Monday evening for a two-day West Bengal tour.

His maiden visit as the party chief holds significance as the assembly elections in the state are due in a few months.

Exhorting the youth to work for the development of the country, Nabin said, “If a developed India has to be made by 2047, then the youth of the country have to work hard to achieve that.” In his address at the ‘Kamal Mela’ at Chitralaya Maidan, Nabin paid tributes to some of West Bengal’s greatest cultural and intellectual icons, saying that the state’s rich heritage has consistently guided the nation.

“West Bengal’s culture has always shown the way to the entire nation. There was a time when the education system of this state illuminated the whole of India,” the BJP chief said.

Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s emphasis on perseverance, he said the country would move towards building a “Viksit Bharat by 2047” by drawing inspiration from his philosophy and by motivating the youth.

He said the ideals of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar continued to inspire both Bengal and the country, while Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore strengthened modern India’s education system through the ashram culture and institutions such as Santiniketan.

“The 150th anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Vande Mataram’ is being celebrated across the country, and his composition gave renewed energy to India’s freedom struggle,” Nabin said.

He also said the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa continued to inspire society, while noting that the cinematic contributions of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar enriched Indian cinema.

He said the writings of Kazi Nazrul Islam gave Bengali literature a distinct stature and that the creations of filmmaker Satyajit Ray illuminated India on the global stage.

The BJP president said his party was committed to protecting and promoting Bengal’s culture, adding that the ‘Kamal Mela’ had provided livelihood opportunities to artisans and encouraged small and medium industries.

Beginning his address by paying homage to those who lost their lives in the recent fire incident at Anandapur in South 24 Parganas district, Nabin expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

Condoling the death of at least eight workers in the blaze on Monday, he said, “Our BJP family is with the families who lost their near and dear ones.” PTI AMR PNT BDC PNT BDC
