New Delhi: President Biden will continue to support the families of those killed in the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, as well as workers and small business owners impacted by the accident, said a White House press statement.

Biden, Wednesday, extended his continued support to the affected people during a meeting with Maryland Governor Wes Moore and other federal and state officials.

The meeting was focused on the progress of fully reopening the federal shipping channel, which is now at a width of 400 feet and a depth of 50 feet, to allow large commercial vessels to call at the Baltimore port.

The US President also conveyed at the meeting that Baltimore is open for business, and he supports returning commerce and tourism to the city.

Before the meeting with the President, White House officials met with Governor Moore and Maryland Secretary of Transportation Paul Wiedefeld to coordinate federal, state, and local efforts in responding to the bridge collapse, supporting affected communities, and developing a plan to rebuild the bridge.

According to the White House statement, the state and federal governments will continue to work closely to implement the necessary measures for a thorough and timely reopening of the shipping channel and to support the people of Baltimore through this difficult period.
