Puducherry Mar 25 (PTI) With the April 9 election for the Puducherry territorial assembly nearing, various political parties and their candidates have intensified their door-to-door canvassing.

Candidates accompanied by their followers carrying their respective party flags started approaching voters at their doorsteps.

As the size of the constituencies is very small in the union territory, candidates are familiar with every neighbourhood in their respective constituencies. Hence, the candidates, accompanied by their followers, approached households with ease and distributed pamphlets bearing their photographs, promises and respective party symbols in scorching summer heat.

Both DMK and Congress candidates are in the fray in some constituencies, though both parties have entered into a poll pact after initial difficulties. Hence, both DMK and Congress candidates were seen campaigning in those constituencies. Though DMK had released an official candidate list, Congress has not officially released a list yet.

A Congress spokesperson told PTI that a clear picture would emerge on March 26, the last day for withdrawing nominations.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister and AINRC leader N Rangasamy told reporters on Wednesday that the AINRC-led NDA has a very bright chance of winning and there are indications for that. He also said that NDA’s poll manifesto would be released shortly.

Rangasamy seeks to contest from the Thattanchavady and Mangalam constituencies.
