Hyderabad, Apr 12 (PTI) Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy on Sunday underscored the importance of balancing strict enforcement with widespread awareness among the public about road safety.

Inaugurating several police infrastructure projects during his visit to Ramagundam Police Commissionerate and reviewing operations in Peddapalli Zone, Reddy emphasised that reducing fatalities caused by road accidents should be a priority of the force, an official release said here.

He instructed officials to ensure that the message ‘Life is more important than speed’ reaches everyone and that the ‘Arrive Alive’ programme (state-wide awareness campaign on road safety) is implemented effectively as a mass movement.

Awareness campaigns, meetings, and outreach programmes should be conducted in both rural and urban areas to sensitise the public, he said.

The DGP also directed officials to organise special training programmes on defensive driving and to strictly enforce the use of seat belts and helmets.

He observed that negligence towards traffic rules often leads to fatal consequences.

He further suggested that sharing the experiences of families affected by road accidents could help in enhancing public awareness.

At Godavarikhani IB Colony, the DGP inaugurated a modern police housing complex constructed by the Police Housing Corporation at a cost of Rs 12.29 crore.

Later, he inaugurated the newly constructed police station building at Kannepalli in Mancherial district, along with MLA Gaddam Vinod and Collector Kumar Deepak.

The DGP, who participated in an awareness seminar on “Arrive Alive” held at Bellampalli Police Headquarters, directed officials to conduct special awareness programmes during the last week of every month.

He emphasised mandatory helmet and seat belt usage and called for strict action against drunk driving.

The DGP further highlighted the rise in cybercrimes and urged officials to leverage technology to effectively curb such offences.

As part of the “Arrive Alive” initiative, the DGP inaugurated a massive “Helmet Chowk” at the Asifabad town check post to promote road safety awareness.

Reddy visited Jodeghat in Kerameri mandal and paid floral tributes to tribal freedom fighter Komaram Bheem.

IGP (Multi Zone-I) Chandrasekhar Reddy, Ramagundam Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha, were among the officials who participated, the release added. PTI VVK VVK ROH
