Arrangements in place for postal, election staff voting: Kerala CEO

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 6 (PTI) All arrangements have been made to facilitate postal voting for officials on election duty and employees in essential services, Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U Kelkar said on Monday.

The assembly election in Kerala is scheduled for April 9.

At an online meeting with District Collectors and Returning Officers, he directed that the necessary arrangements be put in place for the smooth distribution of postal ballots and the conduct of voting.

Out of 34,128 officials who applied under Form 12D (postal ballot for absentee voters), as many as 28,990 (84.94 per cent) have already cast their votes, an Election Commission statement said.

Among voters aged 85 years and above, 1,39,988 out of 1,45,598 applicants (96.15 per cent) have voted through the home voting facility, it said.

Among persons with disabilities, 60,629 out of 62,159 applicants (97.54 per cent) have exercised their franchise.

The statement said that 154 voter facilitation centres across the state will continue to function on Tuesday.

A total of 1.45 lakh Form 12 applications (postal vote for polling officials) have been accepted, it added.

Training and doubt-clearing sessions for polling officials are ongoing, and all training centres and voter facilitation centres will function from 7 am to 6 pm on Tuesday.

Arrangements have also been made for polling officials to cast their votes at distribution centres on April 8, the statement added. PTI TBA TBA ROH
