Tadipatri (Andhra Pradesh), Mar 27 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Police opened fire on a man accused of kidnapping and murder on Friday after he allegedly attacked police in an attempt to flee, officials said.

The person identified as Sarvesh Kumar allegedly strangled and bludgeoned a boy to death at Kundanakota village of Yadiki mandal in Anantapur district on Thursday.

“Tadipatri Police opened fire at the kidnap and murder case accused (Kumar) to arrest him… Police chased and arrested him as he was attempting to flee,” said an official press release.

When the police were observing the crime scene, Kumar attacked them with an empty beer bottle, prompting Peddavaduguru inspector Rama Subbaiah to fire four rounds in self-defence, said the release.

Kumar was immobilised after bullets hit his limbs, while Subbaiah and Constable Venkatesh were injured in the accused person’s attack.

All three are undergoing treatment at Tadipatri hospital, the press release added. PTI STH ADB
