Amaravati, Mar 18 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday handed over Rs 226 crore as part of the third phase compensation to families affected by Polavaram project submergence.

The government said this compensation was being given in view of the Ugadi festival.

“The chief minister handed over a cheque for Rs 226 crore under the third phase of the rehabilitation package for the evacuees,” an official press release said.

Naidu described Polavaram as the “lifeline of the state” and reaffirmed commitment to complete the project on priority, ensuring benefits through river interlinking.

According to officials, around Rs 1,943 crore has been paid over 21 months, including Rs 800 crore during Sankranti, Rs 916 crore during Diwali, and nearly Rs 226 crore in the current phase as part of compensation to Polavaram evacuees.

The project is being implemented in phases, with rehabilitation colonies under development, while additional funds are being mobilised to complete pending works.

He said that earlier delays and damage to the diaphragm wall had set the project back by several years, and reconstruction is now progressing swiftly with revised plans.

Naidu said construction works, including the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project, are progressing rapidly after delays caused earlier, with completion targeted before the next Godavari Pushkarams (kumb mela like pilgrimage).

He noted that the NDA coalition government is committed to transparent payments and faster execution, ensuring all project-related works are completed within stipulated timelines. PTI MS STH ADB
