Sultanpur (UP), Apr 13 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged that the BJP lacked a “socialist face” of its own, so it relied on icons like Jayaprakash Narayan and B R Ambedkar for political mileage.
Speaking to reporters in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur, Yadav alleged that the ruling party does not follow the ideals of Ambedkar and instead indulges in “symbolic politics”.
“The BJP did not have its own socialist face, so it took the support of great leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The ruling party does not follow Ambedkar’s ideals. They (BJP) do not walk on the path shown by Babasaheb. They only do politics over symbols,” he said.
He also questioned the implementation of women’s reservation, asking the government to clarify how and from where women would contest elections.
He also alleged large-scale irregularities in the reservation process.
Referring to the BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya, Yadav said that when the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came together, the BJP suffered a significant setback.
He further said that he has constructed the Kedareswar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Etawah and would invite leaders across party lines to visit the temple.
Targeting the government over smart electricity meters, Yadav said these are not smart meters but ‘pre-paid suffering meters’. “The meters are running so fast that electricity bills are skyrocketing. This is the chief minister’s idea of smartness,” he added.
Earlier, Yadav visited Majhna village in the Bandhua Kala area and met the family of martyr Akhilesh Shukla, offering condolences.
The martyr’s father, Radhey Krishna Shukla, demanded a petrol pump for livelihood, to which Yadav assured him that efforts would be made to facilitate it.
