New Delhi: An Air India Express from Calicut to Saudi Arabia’s Dammam landed at the Thiruvananthapuram airport at noon Friday after it was diverted due to technical reasons.
A full emergency was declared at Thiruvananthapuram’s international airport after the flight was diverted due to suspected hydraulic failure.
Sources told news agency PTI that the tail of Air-India Express IX 385 – with 168 passengers on board — hit the runway during take-off from the Calicut International Airport on Friday morning.
The flight landed at Thiruvananthapuram around 12.15 pm after reportedly dumping fuel in the Arabian Sea to help with safe navigation. The airline made arrangements to fly out the stranded passengers from Thiruvananthapuram to Dammam at 3.30 pm on Friday.
The Air India Express is the low-cost arm of Air India and is headquartered in Kochi.
