AIADMK’s second list features interesting array of candidates

Chennai, Mar 27 (PTI) The AIADMK’s second list of candidates for 127 assembly constituencies released on Friday features an interesting array of sitting MLAs, former legislators, former MPs, engineers, medical doctors and advocates.

The list released by party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami accommodates about 15 women including some sitting MLAs. Leema Rose Martin, wife of ‘lottery king’ Santiago Martin, who joined the AIADMK in February, has been fielded from Lalgudi in Tiruchirappalli district.

She quit the Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi on February 10, after serving the party for almost 14 years, starting from 2012. Her son Jose Charles floated the Lachiya Jananayaga Katchi after quitting the Puducherry BJP.

Leema Rose’s son-in-law Aadhav Arjuna had earlier quit the Thol Thirumavalavan-led VCK and joined the actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and serves as its general secretary.

V Jayaraman, who has been renominated from Pollachi was elected from the same constituency in 2001, 2006, 2016, and 2021 Assembly elections. He served as state minister and had been former deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

B V Ramana, who has been fielded from Tiruvallur, had served as minister in the Jayalalithaa cabinet. He unsuccessfully contested from Tiruvallur constituency in 2021 polls.

V Moorthy, is another former state minister who has been nominated from Madhavaram. He had been Milk and Dairy development minister.

Former MP, Chitlapakkam C Rajendran has been fielded from Tambaram.

A prominent face of AIADMK women legislators K Maragatham Kumaravel has been renominated from Maduranthakam. She has been former MP. She had been chairperson of Thiruporur union.

Pon Jayaseelam, will contest again from Gudalur (R) constituency from where he won in 2021. He is a lawyer by profession.

Former state minister M S M Anandan will seek his electoral fortunes from Tiruppur North from where he won in 2011 and 2021 elections.

M C Sampath, who has been fielded from Cuddalore, was also a former state minister in the Jayalalithaa cabinet. He won in 2011 and 2016 polls.

N Thalavai Sundaram, a former health minister, is a senior leader in the party. He has been nominated from his home constituency of Kanyakumari from where he won in 2021 and prior to this in 2001 election.

Amman K Arjunan who would contest from Coimbatore South had won from this constituency in 2021. PTI JSP JSP ROH
