New Delhi: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has cracked the murder of a Bihar man, allegedly killed and buried in his own kitchen by his wife and her lover, in a plot that seems straight from the movie Drishyam. A tip-off about the murder, subsequent interrogation of the accused and recovery of human remains from the house where the deceased and his wife used to live led to the breakthrough, according to crime branch officials.
The accused woman Rubi, her alleged paramour Imran Vaghela and their two accomplices involved in the crime have been arrested and an FIR was filed in the case Tuesday. Imran, the police said, broke down during interrogation and revealed the murder plot.
“The victim, identified as Israil Ansari, from Bihar’s Siwan district, had a love marriage with the accused woman, Rubi, in 2015-16,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian told the media. Israil worked as a mason in Ahmedabad and the couple had two children.
Rubi subsequently got into a relationship with Imran and Ansari got to know about it.
Police said Imran confessed during interrogation that he forged a criminal conspiracy along with his relatives to kill Ansari because he was an obstacle to their relationship. He also said Ansari beat Rubi regularly, more so after he became aware of their relationship.
As part of the plan, Ansari was killed by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon while he was asleep in his house in the city’s Sarkhej Fatewadi Canal area, Imran told the police.
Post the murder, the accused locked the house and started living together at another place on rent in the same locality.
Rubi would lie to her two sons about their father’s whereabouts. “She used to tell them their father had left them and would never return. For children aged four and seven, the answer was enough not to probe further,” a Gujarat Police officer told ThePrint.
‘Tip-off unearthed the murder’
Ansari was likely murdered a year ago, but no missing complaint was raised since he had not been in touch with his extended family for many years. “Hence, there was no missing complaint or search for him, inspector Shakti Singh Jadeja of the crime branch said. “It was purely a human intelligence-based breakthrough and recovery.”
Around one-and-a-half months ago, the crime branch received a tip-off that Rubi and Imran may have murdered the former’s husband as they were initially not living together.
During probe, the officials found that the house of Rubi and Ansari, purchased about five years ago, had been locked for a long time. After verification of the input, Imran was called in for questioning, where he gave in under sustained interrogation, the police said.
“Upon questioning the accused regarding the motive for the murder, it was revealed that the deceased, Ansari, used to beat his wife and was an obstacle in their love affair. Therefore, he was fatally injured with a knife to the neck. In this crime, along with Imran Vaghela, the deceased’s wife and two other individuals were involved,” DCP Rajian said.
“To prevent the murder from being discovered, the accused dug a pit under the kitchen platform in the deceased’s house, buried the body, and then covered it with cement and tiles,” he added.
When asked about the body of Ansari, Imran told the police it was buried under the floor of the kitchen. “During the excavation, after digging about one-and-a-half feet of soil, human bones, skull, masses of muscle and hair and a bed seat with red, black and brown design and a black cloth were found. All these human remains and goods have been seized for the purpose of investigation as per the instructions of the FSL officer present at the spot,” states the FIR lodged in the case, seen by ThePrint.
The recovered remains have been sent to the forensic science laboratory for examination.
