Puducherry, Mar 27 (PTI) Puducherry Congress chief V Vaithilingam on Friday said action was being initiated against five party workers who filed nominations in constituencies allotted to the DMK for the April 9 assembly polls here.

Vaithilingam said the Congress was earmarked 16 seats in the agreement finalised with the DMK, the constituent of INDIA bloc here.

The DMK in turn was allotted 14 seats out of which one seat was given to the VCK in the forthcoming polls.

The Congress leader said all 16 official party candidates filed the nominations in their respective constituencies.

But six rebel candidates, belonging to the Congress, filed papers in constituencies where the DMK fielded its candidates as per seat sharing agreement.

While one of the six rebels withdrew the nomination filed in Nellithope constituency on March 26, the last day to withdraw the papers, the remaining five, however, did not.

Vaithilingam said action would be taken against them soon.

“Nobody from the Congress should have any contact with them,” he said.

The five rebel candidates included former minister M O H F Shah Jahan, who filed nomination in Kalapet constituency where the DMK`s nominee is Senthil alias Ramesh.

Vaithillingam, who is currently Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Puducherry, is among the officially approved candidates and has filed the papers seeking election from the Thattanchavady seat.

Vaithilingam declined to reply when asked what action would be taken against the rebel candidates.

Shahjahan filed the papers for Kalapet constituency here.

He told media on Thursday that he would not withdraw the nomination as he wanted to develop Kalapet in all sectors.

P M L Kalyanasundaram of the BJP is the incumbent MLA of Kalapet. He is now seeking reelection from the constituency.
