New Delhi, Jan 25 (PTI) AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP on Wednesday of disrupting the proceedings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), a day after the House was adjourned for a second time this month amid chaos.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors climbed over the benches and resorted to hooliganism inside the House while falsely accusing her party of creating a ruckus.

The high-stakes Delhi mayoral election was stalled on Tuesday for the second time this month as the House was adjourned till further notice by the lieutenant governor-appointed presiding officer, following a ruckus created by some councillors.

The adjournment prompted the councillors, 13 MLAs and three Rajya Sabha MPs of the ruling AAP to sit on a “dharna” for nearly four hours against the BJP at the Civic Centre, demanding immediate polls.

“The AAP councillors were sitting peacefully and did not even raise their voice. On the other hand, the BJP councillors climbed over the benches, raised slogans and created a ruckus to disrupt the proceedings,” Atishi alleged.

Accusing the BJP of planning the ruckus beforehand, the AAP leader claimed that the councillors of the saffron party trooped to the Well of the House carrying printed placards.

“Our councillors shot multiple videos and in every video, one can see how the BJP councillors created a ruckus in the House. They were carrying printed placards that said ‘stop hooliganism and let the House function’. This proves that the BJP conspired and pre-planned an agenda to disrupt the House,” she said.

Showing multiple videos to reporters, Atishi further said none of the AAP councillors got up from their seats.

She hit out at the BJP for “falsely accusing” the AAP councillors of creating a ruckus and challenged them to show videos to prove their allegation.

“I want to challenge the BJP to show at least one video where it can be seen that the AAP councillors raised their voice or abused or created a ruckus or did anything to disrupt the proceedings of the House,” the Kalkaji MLA said.

Responding to the allegations, Delhi BJP’s working president Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP leaders of “shying away” from voting through secret ballots for the mayoral election.

“The way the AAP members first created a ruckus in the MCD House and after an adjournment by the presiding officer, sat on a dharna, is yet another proof of their anarchist nature. One fails to understand why the AAP did not allow voting to take place at the scheduled time if it is so sure of its majority,” he said.

The first meeting of the newly-elected House of the MCD was adjourned on January 6 amid a ruckus created by the AAP and BJP members.

The AAP won 134 of the 250 wards in the MCD polls held in December. The BJP managed to win 104 wards. PTI ABU RC
