New Delhi: An eight-year-old was saved by the pediatric cardiology team of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), who successfully performed a high risk transcatheter (non-surgical) lifesaving cardiac procedure on him at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi Cantt.
The child from Baramullah, Jammu & Kashmir, had a critical narrowing of the Aorta (blood channel that supplies pure blood to the entire body) which affected the blood supply to his vital organs.
According to a statement by the PIB, the procedure was performed through a small nick in the groin and involved the implantation of a large stent. Despite that it was a high risk procedure, the child was discharged in a mere three days after the procedure without as much as a scar.
The child was brought to the Army Hospital by the Army’s Dagger Division under Operation Sadbhavna since his parents could not afford his treatment.
