Medininagar, Apr 4 (PTI) Five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of a businessman in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said on Saturday.

Sameer Khalifa alias Guddu (36), a resident of Kanji House Colony, was shot dead by three miscreants around 10:45 pm on Thursday at Nagar Palika Bazar, they said.

The murder was due to a land-related dispute, a senior police officer said.

“We have arrested five people, including the main accused, who had taken a contract of Rs 2 lakh for killing the businessman ” SP Reeshma Rameson said.

Four of the accused have criminal antecedents, Rameson said.

Earlier, on Friday, when the police were conducting raids following a tip-off to nab the main accused and one of his associates in the Panki Police Station area, a brief encounter took place, the SP said.

“During the exchange of fire, the prime accused suffered two gunshot wounds in his leg,” Rameson said.

The police have also recovered two pistols, three cartridges, a motorcycle and Rs 39,400 in cash from the possession of the accused, the officer said. PTI RPS RBT
