Meerut (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday recovered the body of a 23-year-old man, a day after strong currents swept away five youngsters while they were taking a dip at the Makhdumpur Ganga Ghat here, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey said the body of Abhishek was recovered during a search operation on Saturday and sent for a post-mortem.

According to the police, a group of people had arrived at the ghat on Friday to attend a funeral ceremony. During which, they decided to take a dip in the river, but the powerful currents carried them away.

A man present at the scene managed to pull out one of them safely, while the other four went missing, police said.

Efforts to locate the remaining missing youths are continuing, with assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local divers, and other agencies, Pandey said. PTI COR NAV SMV SMV SHS SHS
