Kanker, Mar 28 (PTI) Three Naxalites including a woman surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Saturday, police officials said.
The surrendered cadres were identified as Radhika Kunjam, Sandip Kadiyam and Rainu Padda.
Kunjam and Kadiyam were ‘Area Committee Members’ of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), said Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha.
They also handed over two Self-Loading Rifles (SLR) and .303 rifle to the police, he said.
Based on the information they provided, efforts were underway to establish contact with other active Naxalite cadres in the region and encourage them to give up violence and join the mainstream, the SP added.
On March 25 and 26, six Naxalites had surrendered in the district.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj Pattilingam reiterated his appeal to the remaining Maoist cadres to renounce violence. Those who surrender will receive all benefits under the government’s rehabilitation policy, he said.
More than 2,700 Maoists have joined the mainstream in the past 26 months under the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, said the senior official.
On March 24, senior Maoist commander Papa Rao and 17 others surrendered in the Bastar region. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma had said that no senior Naxal leader would remain active in the state after Rao’s surrender.
