Shimla, Mar 28 (PTI) Road accidents claimed 2,643 lives in Himachal Pradesh in the past three years, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu informed the Assembly on Saturday.
In a written reply to a question from MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur, the chief minister said that 9,999 people sustained injuries in 6,515 road accidents in the state in the last three years till January 31, 2026.
Over-speeding, drunk driving, use of mobile phones while driving, negligent driving and poor road conditions were the leading reasons for the accidents, he added.
Shimla district recorded the highest accidents over the last three years — 300 in 2023, 320 in 2024, 270 in 2025.
Sukhu said that several measures, including the installation of 108 Intelligent Traffic Management System, enforcement drives against traffic violations and challans for over-speeding and rash driving, have been taken to check road accidents. PTI BPL RT RT
