Ballia (UP), Mar 16 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman and her son died, while her husband sustained injuries after a fire broke out at a commercial establishment in a village in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, a senior police official said.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Rinki (22) and her son Dheeraj (4), both of whom died due to suffocation.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Omvir Singh told reporters that the police received a report at around 3.30 am regarding the fire in the Chilkahar village.
He said senior police and administrative officials along with teams from the fire department rushed to the spot. Firefighting operations are currently underway with the assistance of local residents.
He further confirmed that Rinki and her son died due to suffocation. Rinki’s husband Neeraj Chaurasia (24) sustained injuries and has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Goods worth lakhs of rupees, stored in the commercial establishment, were completely destroyed in the blaze, the police said.
