Bhopal, Mar 23 (PTI) The 2027 Army Day celebrations will be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Monday.
Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15 to commemorate KM Cariappa taking over as the first Indian Commander-in Chief of the force from General Sir FRR Butcher in 1949.
The grand celebration will introduce the state’s citizens to the country’s rich military heritage and inspire the youth to join the Army, Yadav said while addressing a meeting held at his official residence here in the presence of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Army has demonstrated indomitable courage, valour, and strength on every occasion. To introduce the state’s citizens to the Army’s rich military heritage and inspire the state’s youth to join the Army, a special parade will be held in Bhopal on January 15, 2027,” Yadav said.
The experience of participating in these Army Day events in Bhopal will be similar to the Republic Day events in New Delhi on January 26, he said, adding that his government will provide all possible support to the Army for these events.
“On the occasion, the Army will organise a Shaurya Sandhya, an exhibition showcasing the Army’s weapons, resources, and equipment, and a demonstration of military exercises. Retired soldiers will also be honoured on the occasion. All activities will be conducted with the same grandeur and dignity as the Republic Day celebrations held in New Delhi on January 26,” the chief minister said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will take part in the celebrations, the CM added.
Officials said the event also aims to connect the public with the military parade as well as develop greater coordination and mutual trust between the Army and civil administration.
Some of the events culminating in the January 15 celebration will begin on November 1, which is Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, an official said.
“On MP Foundation Day, soil will be brought from various districts of the state under the ‘Meri Mati’ campaign. A ‘Sankalp Vriksha’ will be planted at the Shaurya Smarak in Bhopal,” the official said.
He said the initiative to decentralise national events began in 2023 with the aim of strengthening Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and encouraging nationwide public participation in the Indian Army, while strengthening the Army-civilian relationship.
Under this, Army Day was held in Bengaluru in 2023, Lucknow in 2024, Pune in 2025, and Jaipur in 2026, he said.
Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, Lieutenant General Arvind Chauhan, Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh, Major General Vikas Lal, Brigadier Nitin Bhatia, Colonel Saurabh Kumar, Sunny Juneja, Rajesh Bandle and other officers were present in the meeting along with MP Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, CMO Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi and Director General of Police Kailash Makwana.
