IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur kills one DRG guard, injures 3 

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed and three others injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals went off in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district Monday morning.

Officials said the DRG team was conducting an anti-Naxal operation in Indravati National Park when the blast occurred. The slain jawan has been identified as Dinesh Nag. The injured personnel received first aid and are being evacuated from the forest.

EC works in ‘impartial’ way: ex-CEC Rawat

Former Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat welcomed the EC’s press conference clarifying concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, describing the poll body as “impartial”.

He declined to comment on LoP Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote theft”, saying he had not heard the EC’s full response.

Sensex jumps 1,000 points, Nifty above 24,950 on GST reform hopes

Benchmark indices surged Monday on optimism around proposed GST reforms, S&P’s upgrade of India’s sovereign credit rating and easing concerns over Russian oil supplies after talks between the US and Russian presidents.

The 30-share Sensex gained 1,021.93 points in early trade, while Nifty 50 rose 322.2 points to 24,953.50. Fifteen of 16 major sectors advanced, led by auto and consumer stocks, with auto shares hitting a 10-month high.

TDP, Janasena back NDA’s V-P candidate

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan’s candidature as the NDA’s vice-presidential pick, calling him a senior leader who upheld integrity and public service. He congratulated Radhakrishnan in an X post Sunday night. Meanwhile, Congress MP Manickam Tagore criticised the choice, calling him “another RSS man”.

Three schools in Delhi’s Dwarka receive bomb threats

Delhi Public School, Dwarka, and two other schools in the area received bomb threats by email Monday, prompting evacuations, officials said.

Teams from Delhi Police, bomb disposal squad and dog squad were rushed to the sites, while cybercrime teams are working to trace the sender.

Uttarakhand cabinet clears Minority Education Bill

The Uttarakhand cabinet has approved the Minority Education Bill-2025, extending minority institution status to schools run by Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Christians and Parsis. At present, only Muslim-run institutions hold the status. The bill will be introduced in the Assembly’s monsoon session starting 19 August.

Protests in Siliguri against SC stray dog directive

Animal rights activists in Siliguri protested the Supreme Court’s recent order directing that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be shifted to shelters within eight weeks. Calling the directive “inhuman”, they said stray dogs were “voiceless creatures” deserving compassion, not displacement. Similar protests have taken place in Chennai and Delhi.

Yamuna water level above warning mark in Delhi

The Yamuna river in Delhi continued to flow above the warning mark for a second day, measuring 204.8 metres at the Old Railway Bridge. The warning level is 204.5 metres, while the danger mark is 205.33 metres. Evacuation begins at 206 metres.
