16,000 remote pilot certificates issued, 48 Indian firms making drones: Ministry of Civil Aviation

The ministry added that 70 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) models have been type-certified by the DGCA to date.

New Delhi: Highlighting the growth of the drone industry in India, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a press statement Friday that 116 remote pilot training organisations (RPTOs) approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have issued 16,000 remote pilot certificates (RPC) to date.

It added that 70 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) models have been type-certified by the DGCA and that there are 48 Indian drone companies manufacturing drones in the country.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s PLI scheme has shortlisted 23 MSMEs, 11 of which were in the drone component manufacturing category, it said.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on 22 July 2024, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol had said that under the PLI scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, 23 MSMEs were shortlisted for remote pilot training.

Of these, 11 were in the category of drone component manufacturer.
