Shimla, Mar 30 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh government has approved 16 indoor sports stadium projects, of which work has commenced in three as land was available, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Yadvinder Goma, said on Monday.
Responding to a question from MLA Vinod Kumar, the minister said that 13 stadium projects are currently pending, and work on these will begin as soon as the requisite departmental formalities are completed.
He said the government is establishing a Centre of Excellence for Sports at Nadaun assembly constituency in Hamirpur district. Similar centres would be constructed in every district in future.
Responding to another question raised by MLA Malender Rajan, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil said establishing drug de-addiction centres is a priority for the government.
He said the government intends to open de-addiction centres in every district. The process for opening seven of these has already been initiated, Shandil said.
MLA Randhir Sharma also raised a supplementary question in this matter.
In response to a question by MLA Kamlesh Thakur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said there is an urgent need for dredging in the Pong dam.
He said the government does not require permission from any external authority to undertake this task, and would conduct geo-mapping of the Pong dam area to facilitate dredging operations.
He added that several schemes have been introduced for fishermen in this year’s budget.
Sukhu also affirmed that the government is committed to dredging rivers and streams, and this initiative has already commenced in Kullu.

In response to a question by MLA Reena Kashyap, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the proposal to declare the Solan-Minus-Rajgarh-Nohradhar-Haripurdhar-Rohnaat road as a national highway has been submitted to the Central government.
The matter is currently pending with the Union government, and once the approval is received, the state government will make efforts to incorporate this road into the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti Scheme, he said.
