Una (HP), April 12 (PTI) As many as 12 passengers were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus rammed into the hillside while navigating a mountain road near Amb area here on Sunday, officials said.
According to officials, the accident took place near Sidh Chalehar, when the HRTC bus — bound for Punjab’s Hoshiarpur from Dharamshala with around 50 passengers on board — encountered a possible brake failure, preventing the driver from stopping the vehicle.
However, a major accident was averted as the driver steered the bus into the rockface beside the road to bring it to a halt, thus preventing it from plunging into the gorge. During the manoeuvre, a car parked outside a roadside eatery was also hit and damaged.
Three persons — Ashwani (33) from Dehra in Kangra, Rakesh Kumar (44) from Lag Baliana, and Vinod from Bagli in Kangra — were shifted to Amb Civil Hospital where they are undergoing treatment, police said, adding that rest of the injured were provided first aid.
Superintendent of Police Una, Sachin Hiremath said a case has been registered in connection with the incident, and further investigation is underway. PTI COR ARB ARB
