Hathras: On Tuesday, at least 125 people were killed in a stampede at a satsang (religious congregation) in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. According to the FIR, permission was granted for 80,000 people to attended the event hosted by self-styled preacher Narayan Sakar Hari, but crowd exceeded 2.50 lakh, with no adequate arrangements by organisers. Hari, however, not named in FIR.
Local hospitals are crowded with the victims, both living and dead, from the stampede. The Bagla Combined District Hospital, Hathras has 32 bodies and around 6 injured were being treated. The rest were taken to different hospitals. Most of the victims are women. Relatives of victims continue to search for their kin at different hospitals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have expressed their condolences. CM Yogi has said that a probe would be conducted to examine the cause of the stampede.
