New Delhi: In the flood relief camps of Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, resilience mixes with everyday rituals—a family hugs each other while they doze off to sleep, a child ensures that her cow is well fed.
Around 100 tents have been set up for families displaced by the swollen Yamuna in Mayur Vihar phase-1, even as the river water rose above the danger mark Wednesday, following incessant rainfall and inundated the camps.
The people at the camps have been holding on to the semblance of everyday life. The Delhi government supplied medicines and essential utilities, while women and children, holding plates, gathered in queues for food outside the camps.
On Wednesday at 9 pm, the Yamuna’s water level was recorded at 205.39 metres, above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. The warning level for the river is 204.50 metres, while evacuation procedures are initiated once levels reach 206 metres.
