New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, and several Union ministers and political leaders gathered at Sadaiv Atal in New Delhi Wednesday to pay tribute to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 100th birth anniversary.
A statesman, politician, and gifted orator, Vajpayee earned admiration and respect across the political spectrum. A three-time prime minister, Vajpayee was a trailblazer in coalition politics in India. In 2014, the Modi government designated his birth anniversary as ‘Good Governance Day’. The following year, he was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. Vajpayee died in 2018.
