New Delhi: Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda interacted with journalists at ThePrint’s newsroom on 22 June and discussed a host of issues, including the recent crisis in the island nation and India’s crucial aid to its neighbour.
Having served as a member of the Sri Lankan Parliament for a decade, Moragoda was appointed the 26th envoy of Sri Lanka to India in September 2021. Prior to his appointment as Colombo’s envoy to New Delhi, Moragoda served as Cabinet minister with key portfolios including economic reforms, science and technology and policy development and implementation. Moragoda is also the founder of Pathfinder Foundation, one of Sri Lanka’s leading independent policy research and advocacy organisations.
During his interaction with ThePrint, the High Commissioner spoke at length about Sri Lanka’s economic hardship and thanked India for its role in helping Colombo get back on its feet. “The IMF (International Monetary Fund) loan became possible because of India,” he said.
