New Delhi: Several ministers and political leaders reached the Sadaiv Atal memorial in Delhi to mark the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached Sadaiv Atal to pay floral tributes.
“On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, the revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, today I had the good fortune to visit his memorial site ‘Sadaiva Atal’ in Delhi and pay my tributes. His life dedicated to public service and national service will always continue to inspire the people of the country,” the Prime Minister wrote Thursday on X.
Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Rashtra Prerna Sthal in Lucknow to honour the life and ideals of Vajpayee.
Born 25 December, 1924, in Gwalior, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of India’s most respected statesmen, with a parliamentary career spanning over four decades. A Member of Parliament since 1957, he was elected to both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha multiple times and remains the only parliamentarian elected from four different states.
As Prime Minister, Vajpayee left a lasting legacy through decisive leadership and visionary policies. His tenure saw the Pokhran nuclear tests, major infrastructure initiatives like the Golden Quadrilateral, and economic reforms that laid the foundation for sustained growth. His historic bus journey to Pakistan in 1999 reflected his commitment to peace, while his handling of the Kargil conflict demonstrated firm resolve.
