Senapati: Thuingaleng Muivah, general secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and face of the Naga resistance movement, received a rousing reception Wednesday in Senapati on his first visit to Manipur in over five decades.
Hundreds of Nagas formed a human chain to sing and chant slogans as Muivah went from the helipad, where he landed, to the venue for a grand reception in Senapati district.
At the event, organised by civil society organisations under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC), nearly a thousand supporters staged a musical performance for Muivah. UNC also marked the occasion by declaring “Genna”, a traditional day of rest and unity, when all business operations are suspended, and transport and trade takes a break.
“This day is like a festival for us. We are very excited to see our hero. We always hear his (Muivah’s) stories from our parents and social media, but we’ve never saw him in real life. This is a dream come true,” one young Naga told ThePrint.
