Arrests for violations, drones to monitor — how Guwahati is ensuring lockdown is a success

Guwahati has recorded more than 1,700 cases. During the lockdown, only pharmacies, hospitals and a few emergency services are allowed to open in the city.

Guwahati: The Assam government has imposed a 14-day complete lockdown in the Kamrup Metro district from 28 June to 12 July, even as the central authorities have issued guidelines for ‘Unlock 2.0’ — the phased re-opening of activities that had been barred to contain Covid-19’s spread in the country.

Assam has so far registered over 8,500 positive cases, with Guwahati alone recording more than 1,700. In the city, only pharmacies, hospitals and a few emergency services have been allowed to open during the lockdown period.
