New Delhi: After a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia Tuesday, several media outlets were seen sharing a video that claimed to show the aftermath of the tremors.

Sharing the clip on Twitter, a journalist from News Nation said the earthquake in Indonesia had been “caught on camera”.

The journalist’s tweet had 680 retweets and roughly 3,000 likes.

Dubai-based television channel Al Arabiya also shared the video clip, saying the earthquake had prompted  “panicked residents in the area to flee their homes”.

Television channel Times Now Navbharat also shared the clip on their show ‘Fit India Superhit Bulletin’. The channel shared it on Twitter too. DNA News also followed suit, garnering 2,400 views on their tweet.

Fact check:

The viral clip, however, is from an earthquake that struck felt Taiwan in September last year. The News Nation journalist later said the video he shared might be dated.

The clip shows four people standing in a forest clearing when the ground starts shaking.

According to India Today’s fact check report, the video was from the Zhuoxi Township Mountaineering Association’s Facebook post. The association stated that its members were working on a flora and fauna course on Zhuoxi Mountain when the tremors were felt last year. Additionally, Taiwanese and Chinese news reports of the earthquake from September 2022 also confirm that the video is dated
