New Delhi: A video of Samajwadi Party workers and supporters allegedly shouting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ at a railway platform in Mumbai has gone viral on social media.

The post accompanying the video reads, “Pakistan Zindabad being chanted in independent India in Shivaji’s homeland? We are ashamed, Balasaheb Thackeray. Is secularism same as appeasement?”

On Twitter, the video has received over 3,100 retweets and more than 3,200 likes so far. It has also been widely shared on Facebook with a post gathering more than 700 shares.

Samajwadi Party’s local district president Sajid Siddiqui can be seen in the video. The accompanying post also targets Abu Azmi, the Maharashtra president of the party.

Fact check

This video is from 14 May when Azmi, Siddiqui and Mumbai Police personnel flagged off a Shramik Special train at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus station.

If one listens closely, the supporters can be heard chanting “Sajid Bhai Zindabad”. However, this has been misconstrued and the video is being shared by implying that the people are instead saying ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.

Abu Azmi also took to Twitter Sunday to clarify the confusion around this video. Azmi, in a video, explained, “In my country, if anyone in front of me will raise slogans of Pakistan, I will teach him a lesson before the police.”

He said people have been giving communal colours to everything since 2014. Azmi also urged the Mumbai Police to take strict action against those sharing the video with wrong claims.
