Nikon camera with Canon cover? Modi taking pictures of cheetahs with lens cap on is morphed

The PM’s picture was taken when he was at Kuno, where he released eight cheetahs. While opposition leaders had widely shared the morphed photo, TMC’s Jawhar Sircar removed it later.

A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi using a camera with the lens cap on, documenting the recently-released cheetahs in Kuno on Saturday, has been shared by various official Twitter handles, including several accounts belonging to the Congress party.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Virendra Chaudhary, Congress national secretary Ishita Sedha among others, shared the morphed picture. The official Daman and Diu Sevadhal account, too, shared the morphed picture.

 A version of the photograph was shared by Trinamool Congress’s Jawahar Sircar as well, in a since deleted tweet. “Keeping the lid on all statistics is one thing, but keeping the cover on the camera lens is sheer far-sightedness,” he said.

Fact Check

The original photograph has also now been shared in response to the doctored image. Narendra Modi was in fact using the camera correctly, sans the lens cap, as can be seen in the original photograph.

Rather noticeably, in the doctored version, the lens cap says ‘canon,’ whereas the camera is from Nikon.

“TMC Rajya Sabha MP is sharing an edited image of Nikon camera with canon cover. Such a bad attempt to spread fake propaganda. @MamataOfficial.. hire someone better who can at least have common sense,” Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar tweeted.

Apart from the BJP leader, other Twitter users also pointed out the same mistake.
