New Delhi: A fake video is being widely shared on social media platforms featuring a huge, predominantly White audience joyfully dancing and screaming, falsely indicating that they were cheering for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony this week.

Originally shared by an ABP News journalist, Vikas Bhadauria, Friday evening, the video has over 93,000 views and over 2,200 retweets. Bhadauria posted the video with a caption in Hindi, “The more you look at this picture, the less it is. It is an enchanting video. #ModiSarkar2.”

In the video, a foreign audience can be seen standing near a bar, with a huge screen in front of them showing the live telecast of the swearing-in ceremony of Modi’s Union cabinet, via Doordarshan news channel.

The video begins with President Ram Nath Kovind saying, “Main (I)”. The moment Modi starts speaking, the audience can be seen cheering loudly and dancing. It suggests that there was a massive crowd abroad that was celebrating Modi’s return as prime minister.

The post, however, carries a fake, doctored video.

European origins of video

The original video is from June 2016, featuring fans at Ashton Gate stadium, Bristol, celebrating the winning England goal against Wales during a match in the 15th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe.

In the video being shared online, it can be clearly seen that the football screen has been superimposed with the Rashtrapati Bhavan telecast. Further, the video carries a ticker with a nametag on it, @atheist_Krishna, not seen in the original clip.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet was sworn-in in a glittering ceremony in the national capital Thursday.
