New Delhi: Active cases in India have been rising once again and crossed 1.7 lakh-mark Wednesday. The number of new cases detected from Punjab has also been steadily increasing, although these are only a fraction of cases being reported from Maharashtra and Kerala.
Meanwhile, India’s Covid-19 mortality rate has reduced to 1.41 per cent.
Daily cases
In the last 24 hours, 14,989 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported from across the country. More than half of the new cases can be attributed to Maharashtra.
Active cases
After one day of decline in active cases, the infection count in India increased to 1,70,126 Wednesday. The last time active cases remained over 1.7 lakh was on 29 January. Maharashtra has the highest number of active cases in the country, followed by Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
Number of deaths
As many as 98 people died due to Covid-19 across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 1,57,346. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and West Bengal have recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate
The overall fatality rate for India has reduced to 1.41 per cent. Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) reduced to is 3.19, which is still the highest in the country. Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.40 while that of Sikkim remained at 2.19.
Daily tests
As many as 7,85,220 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,222 government laboratories and 1,177 private laboratories in the last 24 hours. A total of 21,84,03,277 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate
The daily test positivity rate for India increased to 1.9 per cent in the last 24 hours as the number of new cases increased. The overall positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.1 per cent.
Recovered cases
As many as 13,123 Covid-19 patients were discharged across India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,08,12,044.
Daily vaccinations
A total of 1,56,20,749 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far, with 7,68,730 doses administered in the last 24 hours. Of these, 1,29,06,771 are first doses, while 27,13,978 have received second doses of the vaccine.
Total cases
As many as 1,11,39,516 people in India have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases reported so far are from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with highest active cases
Maharashtra reported 7,863 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the active case count in the state to 80,302.
As many as 52,238 people have died due to Covid-19 in the state, with 54 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 21,69,330 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19.
Kerala reported 2,938 new cases in the last 24 hours, which takes the total number of infections detected from the state to 10,64,279. As of Wednesday, active cases declined to 47,569.
With 16 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 4,226.
Karnataka is also reporting an increase in active Covid-19 cases. With 437 new infections detected in the last 24 hours, active Covid-19 cases went up to 5,964 Wednesday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 9,52,037 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the state. Karnataka’s death toll increased to 12,343, with seven deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Punjab, 729 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases detected in the state to 1,83,538. Active cases in the state increased to 5,198.
As many as 10 deaths were reported from the state in the last 24 hours, which brings the total Covid-19 death toll in Punjab to 5,860.
Active cases in Tamil Nadu reduced to 3,997, with 462 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 8,52,478.
With one death reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 12,502.
