New Delhi: Covid vaccination for children within 12 to 14 years will begin from 16 March, the government said Monday.

Those born in 2008, 2009 and 2010 will be eligible.

The comorbidity clause for administering precaution or booster doses to senior citizens will also be removed, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. Therefore, the entire population above 60 can get precaution doses from March 16.

The vaccine to be given to youngsters is Corbevax, manufactured by Biological Evans, Hyderabad.

The NTAGI or National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation is reported to have given its go-ahead for the vaccination.

The government covered vaccination for those above 18 years in several phases in 2021. In January this year, vaccination started for those between 15 to 18 years.

Precaution doses for healthcare and frontline workers, and those above 60, started 10 January, 2022 amid a spike in cases due to the Omicron variant.
