Active cases drop below 1.6 lakh for first time since June, daily tests below 8 lakh

New Delhi: India’s active Covid case count continues to fall steadily, dropping below the 1.6-lakh mark for the first time since June in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the daily Covid-19 tests have been below 8 lakhs for the past 12 days, and yet, the test positivity rate remains low.

In the past 24 hours, 12,899 new cases of Covid-19 infections were reported in the country. Over 72 per cent of these new cases were reported from Kerala and Maharashtra.

Active cases in India continue to decline, falling to 1,55,025 in the last 24 hours. The last time active cases were below 1.6 lakhs was on 17 June. While the overall active case count dipped, the state of Chhattisgarh is reporting a rise in active cases.

India’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 1,54,703, with 107 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra and Kerala reported the highest number of daily deaths in the country.

Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) remains the highest in the country at 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is the second-highest at 2.51. Sikkim’s fatality rate has increased to 2.21. The overall fatality rate for India has reduced to 1.43.

In the last 24 hours, 7,42,841 Covid-19 tests were carried out across 1,214 government laboratories and 1,152 private laboratories in India.

A total of 19,92,16,019 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Positivity rate

The daily test positivity rate for India has increased to 1.7 percent from 1.5 per cent Wednesday.

The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.4 per cent.

Daily vaccinations

A total of 41,38,918 healthcare workers have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India, so far. As many as 1,88,762 beneficiaries were vaccinated in the past 24 hours.

Recovered cases

In the last 24 hours, 17,824 Covid-19 patients were discharged across India, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,04,80,455.

Overall, 1,07,90,183 people in India have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

States with highest active cases

Active cases in Kerala declined to 69,365. As many as 6,356 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state in the last 24 hours, which has brought the total number of cases in Kerala to 9,44,709.

A total of 3,796 people have died due to Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 20 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra’s active case count declined to 38,762, with 2,992 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 20,33,266, of which 51,169 people have died. In the last 24 hours, 30 people died of Covid.

Karnataka’s active case count reduced to 5,934, with 426 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. This has brought the total number of infections in the state to 9,40,596.

Of this, a total of 12,225 people have died of Covid-19, with two deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in West Bengal fell to 5,196, with 201 new Covid-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours. This has brought the total number of infections detected in the state to 5,70,581.

A total of 10,195 people in the state have lost their lives to Covid, with seven deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

In Uttar Pradesh, active cases declined to 4,765, with 195 new cases of Covid-19 detected. The total number of cases in the state so far stands at 6,00,837. Of this, 8,674 people have died and six of them died in the last 24 hours.
