New Delhi: Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech, after he was elected mayor of New York City, didn’t need fireworks. Bollywood gave it the perfect ending. Mamdani walked off the stage to the iconic Dhoom title track, sending Bollywood fans across the internet into a frenzy. Many are now calling his victory a “Yash Raj Films climax”.

Mamdani has made history as the first-ever Muslim mayor of New York City. A democratic socialist, he defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani has also become the youngest person to win the mayoral election.

“My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandoned the many and answers only to the few,” the 34-year-old said at his victory party.

‘Most iconic thing he’s done’

A beaming smile on his face, Mamdani waved at the crowd after his speech ended. He was soon joined by his wife, Rama Duwaji, and mother, Mira Nair, on the stage. Nair is an Indian filmmaker best known for films like Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding, and The Namesake.

The Dhoom Machale moment has ignited a wave of excitement. The internet cannot keep calm.

“This man Zohran played Dhoom Machale for his closing song, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be watching some like this, amazing,” a user wrote on X.

Another said: “They played “DHOOM MACHALE” at the end of his speech. No wonder why his victory feels like Yash Raj Film’s climax.”

Some call it the “most iconic” thing Mamdani has ever done.

“An Indian origin democratic socialist Muslim becomes mayor of the biggest city in the US, while Dhoom machale dhoom plays in the bg… You just can’t ask for more,” read yet another post.

With a simple song choice, Mamdani has clearly won the internet’s heart.

“I wonder i have only one heart and how many times this guy Zohran Mamdani will win,” one user wrote.
