New Delhi: Netflix unveiled the trailer for Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, a customs enforcement thriller starring Emraan Hashmi, in Mumbai. At the event, Hashmi also spoke about his personal experiences with the customs department. And, the actor’s fan clubs brought the entertainment dose to the trailer launch.

The series, created by Neeraj Pandey, centres on a specialised customs unit, led by Arjun Meena (Hashmi) at Mumbai International Airport. It’s assigned with dismantling an international smuggling network run by Bada Chaudhary (Sharad Kelkar).

“Customs has been a world I have always wanted to explore,” said Pandey at the press conference. The filmmaker said that this topic has been untouched by cinema, so bringing the vision to life has been exciting.

Taskaree marks the third collaboration between Pandey and Netflix after the Khakee franchise.

Emraan has worked with Netflix before. 2019’s Bard of Blood marked their first collaboration. His cameo in The Ba***ds of Bollywood was a standout.

This is Hashmi’s first collaboration with Pandey. The actor said yes to the script because the story was grounded and an intelligent take on heroism.

Talking about his personal experience with customs, Hashmi said that he has been “whisked a couple of times.”

“Maybe I fit the bill of something or someone. But now they see me with my sweet family, so they don’t,” the actor said.

Hashmi fans brought the fun

Multiple fan clubs of Hashmi also attended the trailer launch, bringing the energy along with them.

One of the fans quizzed Hashmi about whether there is any music or a love story in the series. The questions left the actor visibly blushing.

“There is a beautiful background score. Does that work?” Hashmi asked, and was met with unanimous yes from the fans.

“There are two beautiful actresses in the show, and mai hoon aur love story na ho (I am there, and there is no love story, that’s not possible),” Hashmi quipped.

Pandey’s answer to what the most challenging bit of the show also left the audience in splits—“Making a family show with Emraan.”

Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web is produced by Friday Storytellers and is set to stream from 14 January onward.
