New Delhi: The three greats of Malayalam cinema—Mammootty, Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil—are all set to share screen in the upcoming film Patriot. The teaser dropped on 2 October, featuring the three actors in various roles, with Mammootty and Mohanlal engaged in taut action sequences.
Mohanlal shared the link to the film’s teaser on X.
Mohanlal and Mammootty are set to reunite on the big screen after almost 17 years. While Mohanlal had a cameo appearance in Mammootty’s film Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013), their last film together was Twenty:20, which released in 2008.
Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Revathi are also part of the film, which is an espionage thriller. Mammootty, who had been on an eight-month-long break from acting due to health concerns, announced his return to work with a poster of the film, which simply had the initials MMMN, referring to himself, Mohanlal, Nayanthara and the director Mahesh Narayanan.

Much-awaited return
The 81-second teaser begins with a voiceover which says, “I remember there was a time when this nation was controlled by the two of them. Together. Over these years, what they earned wasn’t just followers. Faith. Trust.”
The next few shots give a glimpse of the actors who are part of the film. There is a reference to a spyware software named Periscope, which keeps an eye on people, especially students.
In one scene, the character played by Faasil asks someone, “Do you know what will happen if they reunite? Blast!”, in a possible reference to the characters played by Mohanlal and Mammootty.
The duo then appear in one scene together in the teaser, against the backdrop of an airbase. While Mammootty is dressed in a black suit, Mohanlal is seen in a military camouflage uniform.
Narayanan recently mentioned in an interview that Mamootty had rejoined the shooting of the film in Hyderabad, and the next schedule will be in the UK. Narayanan has a Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director (2017) and Kerala State Film Award for Best Director (2022) to his credit. His last film was the thriller C U Soon (2020) with Faasil, and was shot entirely on an iPhone.
