New Delhi: Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, also popular as ‘BeerBiceps’, has issued an apology after creating a storm on social media with his question to a contestant on YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.

“I personally had a lapse in judgement. It wasn’t cool on my part…I am sorry. I hope you can forgive me,” he said in a 52-second clip posted on X, where he has close to 6 lakh followers. Allahbadia is yet to post the clip on YouTube, where he runs the popular podcast, TRS: The Ranveer Show, with close to 83 lakh followers, or on Instagram, where he has 34 lakh followers.

The apology came after a complaint was registered in Mumbai against him as well as India’s Got Latent host Samay Raina and Instagram influencer Apoorva Mukhija aka The Rebel Kid over their alleged use of ‘abusive language’.

Allahbadia asked a woman contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” He posed another objectionable question to her later.

The complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis calling the content “very vulgar”, saying “action will be taken”. The show’s organisers have also been booked by the Maharashtra Police.

Other content creators to feature on the episode, which was available only to paid subscribers of Raina’s YouTube channel, included Ashish Chanchlani and Jaspreet Singh.

One X user pointed out that even in his crass, Ranveer Allahabadia was copying the question, with another user commenting that this shows the podcaster was completely aware of the nature of question.

Lyricist Neelesh Misra described the creators of the show as “perverted” who are shaping the country’s “creative economy”.

“This content is not designated as adult content — it can be seen with ease even by a child if the algorithm takes him or her there. The creators or the platform have zero sense of responsibility. I am also not surprised at all that four people at the desk — and lots in the audience — celebrated this and had a great laugh,” he wrote on X.

While criticising Allahbadia for his remarks, a section of internet users is also demanding a “ban” on Raina’s YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ Calling it “crap,” users said the show relies on vulgarity, racism, North-South hate in the name of “comedy” and “dark humour,” while accusing the creators of normalising abuse and sexual objectification of women.

Last year in September, a contestant named Santosh Patra made derogatory remarks on people with disabilities, sparking public outrage.

In another episode, contestant Banti Banerjee joked about Deepika Padukone’s depression and the RG Kar rape case.

Another contestant, Priyanka Halder’s act of getting her costume cut on stage and revealing personal details about her marriage received mixed reactions.
