New Delhi: The ticket prices for Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule are rivalling even the Barbenherimer frenzy in July last year. Oppenheimer ticket prices had started out at Rs 700 in the country, touching Rs 2,450 in some places. And from the looks of it, Pushpa 2 isn’t far behind.

A regular ticket in Delhi costs Rs 600 plus platform fees on BookMyShow, while recliner seats are priced at Rs 1,800. There are also reports that IMAX tickets are selling for Rs 1,400 in some theatres in Bengaluru.

Sukumar’s Pushpa 2 hit screens around the world Thursday. With the amount of anticipation for the film, producers Mythri Movie Makers have jacked up ticket prices.

The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have approved the high ticket prices and the hike will remain applicable for the first 13 days of the film.

Allu Arjun took to X to share his appreciation of the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for approving the ticket hike. This progressive decision demonstrates your steadfast commitment to the growth and prosperity of the Telugu film industry,” wrote the actor.

Petitions to stall release

A petition was filed by Srinivasa Reddy in Telangana High Court about the exorbitant ticket prices. The lawyer representing Mythri Movie Makers argued that the ticket prices had to be increased due to the film’s high budget. The court refused to pass orders, posting the matter for 17 December.

In a separate PIL, petitioner Sararapu Srisailam wanted a stay on the film’s release because of the prices. However, the petition was dismissed and the court imposed costs on the petitioner.

Allu Arjun fans seem undeterred by the skyrocketing prices as advance booking for the film has already touched Rs 100 crores, with 31 lakh tickets sold.

Pushpa 2’s trailer was first launched in Patna in November, and subsequently, its songs were launched in Hyderabad and Chennai. All the events had massive turnouts.
