The fashion faux pas of 2024. This list definitely has Salman Khan’s pants

Indians are pushing the boundaries of fashion. But for every star setting the red carpet on fire, there's one that's crash landed. Here are ThePrint's top 10 picks for fashion losers.

Every year, fashion brings its fair share of bold trends and daring experiments and 2024 is no exception.

From over-the-top maximalism to ‘casual’ disasters, some choices were infamous. The worst fashion moments of the year often spark heated debates, ridicule, and, of course, viral memes.

Here are ThePrint’s picks of the year’s biggest fashion faux pas (in alphabetical order).

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
When did we lose the red carpet queen to the dark side of fashion? Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has delivered a streak of fashion disappointments throughout the year. But, her Cannes outing tops the list. The Diwali and Christmas decorations went missing from Indian households and landed on Bachchan’s outfit. The choice of fabric, the colour scheme, the silhouette—nothing was right. Lajpat Nagar would have better options for the actress.

Bhumi Pednekar
Fashion experiments can be exciting, but this one by Bhumi Pednekar is a clear miss. The glass armour saree by Raw Mango, supposedly inspired by the “ancient Theyyam dancers and their battle-ready attire”, ends up looking less like armour and more like someone repurposed a fish bowl.

Kashmera Shah
There’s no sugarcoating this one—it’s downright ugly. Forget weddings; this look shouldn’t exist for any occasion. It’s like mixing pasta with yellow dal—a mess. A badly cut denim top paired with a fully embroidered peach skirt? Who, in their right mind, thought this combo was a good idea?

MS Dhoni
We’re not looking for runway-worthy fashion from the former captain of the India cricket team, but a golden, glittery sherwani paired with matching Patiala pyjamas? That’s a tough pill to swallow. Someone—his designer, PR, assistant, or maybe even his wife—should’ve told him. Honestly, one glance in the mirror could’ve saved us all.

Nupur Shikhare
Nupur Shikhare showed up to his own wedding wearing a vest and shorts—setting a new low for Indian men’s fashion standards. Sure, we could all say, ‘his body, his choice,’ but weddings aren’t exactly the time to make that statement. When events come with dress codes, maybe it’s best to respect the tradition instead of turning every occasion into a fashion rebellion.

Salman Khan
There are good pants, bad pants, questionable pants, and then there are Salman Khan’s pants. Once upon a time, he kept it simple with blue jeans and a black tee. Sure, it was a little predictable, but at least they worked. Then came the ‘experiments’—anime jeans, Hello Kitty jeans, and even patchwork vintage pants that looked like a craft project gone wrong. Honestly, please bring the boring back.

Shalini Passi
The new season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives was dominated by the one and only Shalini Passi. But, we can’t say the same about her fashion sense. It is loud, blingy and always a bit too much. This hot pink fish-cut gown is a fashion crime of epic proportions. And, then an overdose of silver jewellery slapped onto her neck and head, plus a gold seashell bag—it’s a mismatched overload.

Shweta Bachchan-Nanda
Fashion maximalism isn’t for everyone, and Shweta Bachchan-Nanda’s saree-inspired look at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding festivities is proof. This Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla ensemble feels like a clash of ideas. The crushed, multipanel tissue ghagra with gota borders paired with an over-the-top Byzantine beaded blouse is downright chaotic—pick one star, the blouse or the ghagra, not both. Adding to the overload, her stylist roped in a heavy Jadau necklace and a 5.5-metre indulgent dupatta, making it feel like a sabotage mission.

Uorfi Javed
Uorfi Javed’s fashion experiments always steal the spotlight—bizarre, sure, but creative. Known for transforming the most unexpected items into outfits, she’s pushed the boundaries once again with a skirt made of dolls. But this one’s a major misstep. It’s not just awful; it’s downright unsettling and creepy. Stripping dolls and hanging them upside down might grab headlines, but it certainly doesn’t scream fashion.

Urvashi Rautela
She made history as the ‘first Indian actress ever’ to be invited to the 2024 Paris Olympics, but her fashion choices quickly turned her into the least appropriate representative. If her wardrobe had a one-word review, it’d be ‘hideous.’ From fur overload, shapeless silhouettes, clashing hues—the fashion outings screamed ‘too much.’ And, the result was a total lack of cohesion.
