Mumbai, Apr 12 (PTI) Actor Aamir Khan on Sunday mourned the death of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, calling it the end of an era and a loss felt not just by the film industry but by the entire world.
Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on Saturday evening following a chest infection and exhaustion.
“For the whole industry, for the whole country, for the whole world. I am a big fan of hers. And this is a very sad thing, it’s a big loss. It’s the end of an era,” Aamir told reporters in Shirdi, Maharashtra.
The 61-year-old actor placed Bhosle alongside the four titans who had defined playback singing in Hindi cinema.
“The four great singers – Lata (Mangeshkar) didi, (Mohd)Rafi saab, Kishor (Kumar) da and Asha Ji. So it’s the end of an era, I feel. And it’s a very sad day for all of us,” Aamir said.
“My heartfelt condolences to the country, all our fans, her family, everyone. We are all her family. We pray that her soul may rest in peace,” he added.
With a career spanning decades, Bhosle remained an irreplaceable voice in Hindi cinema, recording over 12,000 songs. She continued to sing until the late 2010s and beyond, making her among the longest performing singers in global music history.
