New Delhi: With Dhurandhar: The Revenge set to hit theatres on 18 March, social media is once again buzzing with jokes about Dhar’s blockbuster. From dissecting the film’s advance bookings to debating whether it is propaganda or not, X and Instagram users are battling it one meme, reel and post at a time.
One Instagram user, Sumit Sisodiya, shared a video in which he is seen carrying a suitcase and some snacks and bidding goodbye to his mother. The caption read: “Dhurandhar 2 ka night show book kar liya (Booked the night show for Dhurandhar 2)”. The video also features a poster of the film highlighting the nearly four-hour run time. The post, which quickly went viral, demonstrates how eager Indian audiences are to watch the highly anticipated and lengthy sequel.
The format has since become somewhat of a trend, with similar videos popping up across Instagram.
One X user posted the song sequence Kuch To Hua Hai from Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) with the caption: “Me going to watch Dhurandhar 2 after delaying every office task to tomorrow.”
To a post saying, “The kids can have Avengers Doomsday. The men will be at Dune 3,” one X user responded with: “And the legends will be at Dhurandhar The Revenge.”
Some Internet users are already joking about the “sick leaves” they will be availing to watch the film. Posts such as “My manager seeing me take sick leave on 18 March” are already circulating online.

But the craze around the film is not limited to its wait. Internet users are also pointing out the difference between India’s obsession with the film versus the ongoing political crises in the world. One X user, Yasmeen Malik, posted a video capturing this, saying, “Global tensions because of war, meanwhile, Indians are busy in Dhurandhar 2.”
Even Canadian and Finnish leaders are discussing the hit Hindi film. While on a morning jog in London’s Hyde Park, the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, asked the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, “How was your Insta thing in India?” To which Stubb replied, “It was huge after I said I’d watched *Dhurandhar*.” Like most things associated with the film, the clip, too, has gone viral.

The propaganda allegations, however, are not far behind. With one meme stating: “Kutta paalo billi paalo lekin ‘if you ignore the propaganda it’s actually a very well made film’ wale dost kabhi mat paalna (Have dog lovers, cat lovers but don’t have the ‘if you ignore the propaganda it’s actually a very well made film’ type friends).’”
One popular tweet said, “Pakistan has a water crisis. The world knows. So in this scene, he is eating spicy food and needs water, so he cries and gets the water. Peak writing by Aditya Dhar.” It’s part of a trend where users exaggerate details and attribute them to Dhar’s directing and writing choices.
Other posts about the franchise include criticising the fashion choices. Social media users have been joking about how Bollywood commonly portrays Muslim men sporting eyeliner or kajal. One meme online includes a picture of Ranveer Singh, who plays Hamza Ali Mazari/Jaskirat Singh Rangi, wearing a form-fitting Pathani suit; the caption reads: “Someone tell their designer that no one in Pakistan wears half-sleeve kameez.”
Others on the internet are choosing to stay away from the politics of the film and instead are vibing to its catchy songs.
Even the ticket booking platform, BookMyShow, has joined the Dhurandhar discussion with a post on X, indicating a surge in searches.

One X interaction shows how haters and fans of the movie are clashing over it online. An Instagram user, Aishwarya ki rai, who captured the exchange, captioned it: “#Dhurandhar meltdown is a treat to watch.”
