New Delhi: Bengali cinema lovers are witnessing a ‘jab they met’ moment with the trailer launch of Dhumketu that stars Dev Adhikari and Subhashree Ganguly who dated for four years before separating in 2015.
For the Bengali audience, it is no less a landmark moment than when Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan were spotted on stage at IIFA 2025, talking to each other, a decade after their last film together. While Shahid and Kareena might never do a film together, Dev and Subhashree have made a grand comeback. Shahid and Kareena were last seen together as a romantic pair in Milenge Milenge (2010), and were part of the ensemble cast of Udta Punjab (2016).
At the trailer launch event of Dhumketu, organised in Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha, the duo made an entry to a romantic track of the film. Dressed in black, they also performed their hit song Mala Re from Romeo (2011) on stage, with cheers erupting from the audience. The duo was last seen together on screen in Khoka 420 (2013).
Kaushik Ganguly’s Dhumketu, which had been stuck in limbo for a decade over fallout between the director and producer, is now set to release worldwide on 14 August.
The film’s trailer drew many reactions with one calling it “the Bengal tamasha,” referring to the return of the two actors on screen together.
“Finally my heart is at peace,” wrote another person.
People also made edits and reels of the two together, and one user wrote, “Remembering the days of Sangeet Bangla era”.
The nearly three-minute-long video features Dev as a mysterious soldier Bhanu, striving to maintain his love and family ties despite facing significant challenges and turmoil. The video intercuts visuals of Bhanu undergoing rigorous physical training with scenes of his romance with Rupa (Subhashree). There is also a glimpse of Dev as a white-haired aged man.
Dev and Subhashree’s relationship was seen as the perfect outcome of their successful on-screen pairing in blockbusters like Challenge (2009) and Khokababu (2012). The end of the relationship also marked the end of their professional collaboration.
The much-anticipated film Dhumketu will clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR-starrer War 2 and Rajinikanth’s Coolie at the box office.
